3 Things You Need To Know About Caring For Your AC System

Posted on: 4 May 2017

The HVAC system is a very important part of your home. There are many people who have this system in their house and fail to keep it up and do even the simple things that will keep it running for the long-haul. If you fail to do a couple maintenance things on it, you could easily damage the system and have to pay for expensive repairs. Here are some things you need to know about caring for your system.

1. Always Change The Filters

One of the most overlooked things when it comes to your AC system is the filter. There is a filter that act as a barrier between the outside air and the air that is circulated through the house with the AC. This filter is in charge of catching dirt and debris so that it doesn't blow throughout the house. However, over time the filter becomes very dirty. And the messier the filter becomes the harder the AC has to work. In fact, if you fail to change the filter often it will cause your AC to work harder, and could even die on your, all for just a simple and cheap filter.

You should be changing the filters every couple months or at least once a year. If you live in an area with lots of dirt, like on a farm on in a construction zone, you should be checking it often.

2. Keep The Outdoor Unit Clean

Another mistake that many people make is not checking the outdoor unit for debris and dirt. Too many people plant trees and plants around the unit, then over time the unit becomes dirty and once again, it makes the AC system work harder. This is why you should be walking around it often and  checking for problems.

3. Don't Make The System Work Harder Than It Has To

Lastly, protect your AC system, don't make it work too hard. There are simple things you can do around the house to protect the system so that it doesn't have to run on full speed around the clock. You can keep fans on, leave the windows closed on hot days. If it is cool outside, turn off the AC and open the doors and windows to let air circulate through. This will give the AC a break.

By doing these things you can protect your AC and save money in the long run. For more information, contact companies like Extreme's One Hour Heating and Air Conditioning.
